DIY Painted Heart for Valentine's Day

We have an easy and fast DIY Valentine's Craft that you will love.  You can finish our Wood Hearts in any color to match your current Valentine's Decor.  These hearts are perfect to sit on a fireplace or three-tiered tray.

Things you will need:

Step 1:    Start by putting a small amount of paint on your paper plate.  I like to start by painting the edges of my Wood Cutout and I use a sponge brush to do this.

Step 2:    When the edges are painted, I then set my MDF Heart Cutout on a paper cup. (You can use a few cups if your wood cutout is large.)  This makes it easier to paint the top, while the edges are elevated off of your table.  I love to set my MDF Wood Cutout on a paper cup to let it dry also.

Step 3:   Once the sides and top are dry, I then paint the back of the heart. At this point I also add another coat of paint to the front of the Cutout, if needed.  Because our Wood Cutouts are 3/4" thick, they can easily stand up on their own.  I stand up the Wood Cutout so that both sides can dry. One thing I love about Acrylic Craft paint is the drying time... it dries very fast.

Step 4:   After my MDF Wood Cutout is dry, I like to spray my pieces with a Clear Wood Finish Lacquer Spray to protect the painted finish.  You can find a spray at your local Hardware Store, Home Depot or Lowes.

Step 5:    Then the final step... using ribbon, tulle, string, vinyl or whatever you can find to finish off your decoration.  I love to use a contrasting ribbon to accent my wood piece and add even more color and design to it.  Have fun and be creative!  There are so many possibilities.

~On this red heart, I use the handle of my paint brush to make dots on it.  I love the look of these sweet dots on this heart.  It just makes it look so cute & delicate for my Valentine’s Day Decor.

Dip the end of your paint brush in white paint.  Then place the end of your paint brush on your MDF Cutout.  This will make a dot of paint.

You may want to practice on a piece of paper first to make sure you know what the end result will be and how much paint you desire for your dots. Continue adding cute dots on your Wood Cutout.
